Birthday Girl!

Saturday, August 27, 2011

Yesterday was my only daughter’s birthday. She turned 20! Wow! I can’t believe it; seems like only yesterday she was my little girl. I don’t know if it is because my kids are getting older or what. Lately I’ve been thinking about when they were little and the birthday cakes I’ve had made for them remind me of when they were little. When my son turned 23 on the 7th of August I had a cake made for him with bulldozers, loaders, and backhoes on it. So in keeping with the Birthday theme for this year I had this Pocahontas cake made up for Nikki. Nikki LOVES Pocahontas in fact for Halloween this year she wants to be Pocahontas; thus the cake idea. Nikki has celiac disease so the cake had to be made gluten free and Yes, it is as yummy as it looks!

I wanted to make her a Pocahontas card for her birthday but I do not have a Pocahontas stamp set and couldn’t think of how to make it with punches. Another favorite of Nikki’s is dogs and she often thought of being a veterinarian until she became ill and went thru all the testing and what not until we finally figured out she had Celiac disease. It has changed her life in more ways than one. She is currently going to Michigan State majoring in dietetics; because she wants to help other teenagers going thru what she went thru and continually goes thru. Not only does Nikki have Celiac disease but 27 other food allergies as well so she is on a strict diet. Anyways back to the card; I decided I would use the new stamp set called Not So Seriously (#123085 $33.95 wood or #123087 $25.95 clear). I just love the little dogs and I knew Nikki would too.

I got the color scheme from Angela Waters one of the Stampin’ Queens design team members. The sketch is for this weeks sketch challenge for Mojo Monday.

Enjoy your day and give your kids a Huge Hug; they grow up sooooo fast!
