The Brayering Backgrounds technique for Sympathy Cards makes quick and easy cards in no time.

My son-in-law asked if I had any Sympathy cards because a co-workers father passed away suddenly on Sunday.  I said why sure I do; even though I didn’t have any on hand; I quickly set to work creating.

If you tuned into my Facebook or YouTube live last night then you saw me create this card.  Missed it; no worries scroll to the bottom of this post to view it.  Like it?  Share it!

No one ever likes to make Sympathy cards but we all need them now and then.  Since my son-in-law was giving this to a co-worker I thought I would try to keep it a more Masculine sympathy card.  No added fluff with pearls, jewels, ribbon etc.

I thought I’d sponge a nice background using my Stitched Rectangles as my stencil.  Well, my arthritis in my right thumb has flared up BIG time and sponging wasn’t working very well for me; so I pulled out my Sponge Brayers and went to town.

My ink colors were:

  • Bermuda Bay
  • Pool Party
  • Seaside Spray

Once I got started I couldn’t stop and made quite a few cards in different directions and layers.

The stamp sets I used were:

  • Rooted in Nature
  • Woven Heirlooms
  • Kindness & Compassion
  • Peaceful Moments

I mixed and matched those stamp sets to create my outside sentiments as well as the inside sentiments.

These are just a few of the ones I created.  Like I said once I started brayering I couldn’t stop it was too much fun!

Next on my list to order is more sponge brayers so I don’t have to change the sponges for different colors.  I generally will brayer 3 different colors and with 3 handles I won’t have to change the sponges.  Plus, more color options to play with.  Just take the sponges to the kitchen sink when you’re finished and wash them with soap and water and let them dry.  They will be stained but that doesn’t matter.

You did a beautiful job with your sympathy cards. A friend wanted me to go see her while she is recruperating from foot surgery. I wasn’t sure I could make the trip that far by myself without my husband (I really miss him so much and his birthday would have been Jan 12 so that was so hard) Anyway she needed thank you cards and knew I made cards so she said if I come down to bring some stuff down so we could make cards. You know what that’s like lugging stamping stuff around. Anyway I made it down and I got her to make cards. She’s more into making quilts than cards. Then she asked how I do get well and sympathy, I just explained sometimes I don’t have an idea to start I sit down and sometimes it just comes together. We made 15 cards she was quite pleased. I bought birthday sentiments here and there an one was really big, trying to get that stamped wasn’t easy so that sort of
deterred her from stamping although she did 2 of the others that weren’t quite that big. I don’t think she’s gonna get into stamping if she does it will surprise me.
I’m slowly getting back into stamping, my reg demonstrator is in Greencastle Pa. although I do go to Events like To Much Fun and one in Chantilly Va. in June, I get what I like, some Stampin Up Consultant stay with their business which is fine but there’s so much out there..
I continue to watch your videos and I love them.
    Take Care

Hi Colleen, What a great adventure for you and your friend. I know it was hard to leave but I’m sure it was well worth it for you and her. Stamping with someone can be very healing for both of you for different reasons. Love that! Take care my friend and if you need anything you know where to find me. 🙂
