Basic Stamp Masking Techniques With Country Flowers Bundle

basic stamp masking techniques

Today I’ll show you basic stamp masking techniques using the Country Flowers bundle.   This bundle is a perfect example of how to create simple masks for cardmaking projects.

This month in my team meeting I did a presentation on how to use different mediums to achieve different masking techniques.  Throughout this month I’ll show you all the different ways you can create cards using different masking techniques.    My inspiration for my masking cards came from pages 124 and 125 of the annual catalog.  Check out those pages, follow along this month, and see if you can spot the technique that I used.

Can you spot the basic stamp masking techniques I used on this card?  There are a couple of products you could use to achieve the technique on this card.  If you said a sticky note or the Masking Paper than you would be correct.  Either of those products will create simple masks for cardmaking projects.

How do you create a mask?  Well, for this card I stamped the flower image onto a sticky note making sure that at least part of the image would be sticky.  There are post it notes that the whole sticky note is sticky and those work great, but I just had the regular sticky note.  After you stamp your image onto the sticky note you then hand cut it out, cutting on the lines or very close to the stamped image, so you will get a nice clean stamped piece.

So now that you know how I created the mask portion of this card, what were the next steps.  I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock and then stamped the flower image using Black Memento ink.  I covered the flowers with my mask I cut from the sticky note and then stamped the flowerpot, remove the mask and you get the image shown.  I then colored the flowerpot and the flower bouquet using my Stampin’ Blends.

If you are a visual person, I hope the images shown above will help to show you the process.   I would say the most time consuming part of masking is creating the mask itself either with the sticky note or masking paper.  I like to hand cut my stamped images so I get a nice close cut.  I also stick my mask inside the stamp case with the image I used for future masking, so next time the process will go much faster.

The sentiment on the card is from the Labeled with Love bundle and I accented it with the Iridescent Pearls.

This card is a bit out of my comfort zone as I added the matted Basic Gray piece on an angle as well as the stamped image.  Just a bit different card than my normal way of stamping and adhering my stamped pieces.

The background piece is part of the Thoughtful Designs 12 X 12 Specialty Designer Series Paper pack.  This paper pack is different from others as it has a shimmery soft gradation of colors, meaning it will change color throughout the paper piece.  The colors in this particular print range from pink hues, purple hues and blue hues, needless to say I find it very interesting.
