Carved Wood Embossing Folder Techniques You Will Love

fall themed cards with embossing folder techniques

Over the course of the next few weeks I will be showing you different embossing folder techniques. Some of these techniques might be new to you and other’s you might have done in the past and forgotten about.   This month in my team meeting it was my turn to do the demonstrations and it was all about embossing folders.  I went back through some of my old videos and found 14 different techniques involving embossing folders.  I have added one of those videos below in this blog post, as I used that technique to create today’s Carved Wood Background technique.  The video shows older retired products, but the technique is the same, just change your embossing folder, stamp set, paper etc.

Did I mention that this is the Carved Wood Background technique?  It might be a bit hard to see that in this photo, but I will be showcasing more cards in the next few weeks with this technique and I also have a few with the Timber 3D embossing folder.

This fall themed card uses the Changing Leaves Bundle which is perfect for embossing folder techniques.  This bundle not only has the stamps, dies, but a hybrid embossing folder ,so you can die cut and emboss the leaves and background all at the same time.

I thought the rich warm colors on this “carved wood background”, needed some sparkle with the gold foil paper, so I die cut a couple of leaves and added the Gold Textured Adhesive-backed dots and a little gold bow.  The Paper the I stamped and die cut the circle and sentiment from is from the mini catalog it is the Season of Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper.  This paper has the gold foiling running through it, so it tied in nicely with my leaves and accessories.

To get the “faux carved wood” you just use your scoring blade to make planks in the embossed piece of cardstock.  It is super easy and each piece will look different depending on the inks you use and the amount of ink colors you use.  For my card I embossed a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and then scored my “planks” and then using the blending brushes, brushed the Gray Granite, Cajun Craze, and Mossy Meadow inks over the top.
