creative paper quilting design ideas

Do you love designer series paper?  Would you like to learn some fun quilting techniques with designer series paper?  If you are a quilter, but also love card making then you are going to love today’s creative paper quilting design ideas with the Earthen Elements Designer Series Paper.

A few weeks back I posted some faux quilting bird cards like these that we did at our February Team Meeting.  I had so many people inquire about the pattern and asked for a video that I said I would do it, so you will find that video down below in this blog post.  Each month France and I take turns doing a demonstration at the team meeting and we challenge our teams to recreate the card or project using the supplies they have on hand.  They need to upload their finished card to our team Facebook page and then their name goes into a drawing for a prize.  This has been so much fun seeing everyone’s works of art and the different supplies they used.  I would love for you to join my team and get in on these fun presentations and challenges.  Beginning May 1 – 31, 2024 you can join my team for $99.00 and you will get to choose $125.00 in products of your choice from the new annual catalog and you will also get select products of the New In Colors  ($82.00 value).  Plus, shipping is free!  That’s $207.00 worth of products for $99.00!  Want to know more click HERE.  Keep in mind this starts May 1st!

Faux Quilting Techniques With Designer Series Paper:

This was the card I created during the video.  I used the Earthen Elements Designer Series Paper on all of today’s cards, which is soon to be retired.  You only have today and tomorrow to get those last chance products.  See the list below in this blog post.

The sentiment is from the online exclusive products and that is the Sweetly Scripted stamp set.  This set is great for stamping your sentiments across the bottom or up the sides of your cards.

The embossing folder I used is in the new annual catalog which debuts May 1, 2024.  It is the Eyelet 3D Embossing Folder.  Join in May and you can choose this as one of your items for your starter kit.

This was my sample card I created before doing the video ,so I could remember how all the little pieces came together.  To do the faux quilting you will need to cut a bunch of designer series paper into 3/4″ X 3/4″ squares and some of them you will cut in half on the diagonal.  I generally use 3 different prints choosing to use a lighter print for the belly, a brighter print for the body, and a brown print for the wings.

I accented this piece with the Pecan Pie cardstock and ink and the Moody Mauve ribbon.  This ribbon is on the retired list so will be gone for good soon.  I also used the Rustic Metallic Dots for my Bird eyes and to accent the cards, this too was on the retired list, but sorry to say already sold out.  You can use some other embellishments that you have on hand.

Once I started creating these quilting with designer series paper cards, I thought why not create two bird’s beak to beak and make it an anniversary card.

Once I started creating these quilting with designer series paper cards, I thought why not create two bird’s beak to beak and make it an anniversary card.

I created my second bird the exact same way as the first, I just mirrored how I placed the squares for the second card.   I also laid out all the pieces onto my Basic White cardstock before gluing them down to insure they would stay within the size of my white cardstock piece.  One I had them placed where I wanted them; I then glued the pieces into place and ran it through my Cut & Emboss Machine inside the new large Dotted Circles 3D Embossing Folder.

The happy anniversary sentiment is also part of the Sweetly Scripted stamp set.

This card would be considered a slimline card and will fit inside a legal-size envelope.
