Last Group of Quick Masking Methods In Cardmaking Series

quick masking methods in cardmaking

This group of quick masking methods in cardmaking cards will end my series in basic stamp masking techniques. I hope you have checked out all the different ways of masking during the month of August. If you missed out no worries you can go back through the blog and see all the different masking techniques, I used.

These were part of the step-by-step stamp masking tutorial I demonstrated at the Team Meeting in August.  These cards were all created with the same masking techniques, but I just couldn’t seem to get it right, so I kept at it.   Let me just clarify that creating scenic cards or scenes if you will, is not my talent.  I tried my best and after getting the cards all completed, I do think they turned out okay.

I’m going to start with my favorite of the four shown.  Maybe it is the darker color of ink and the black and Smoky Slate base, but this one is the one I like best.  All four of the cards were created the exact same way the only difference is the amount of ink color I added to the background and edges of the cardstock.  For this card I did use Misty Moonlight for the water and edges of the cardstock.  The other blue is Balmy Blue, and the moon/sun image is Basic Gray with a little sponging of Daffodil Delight.  The stamp set that I used is called under the moon.  It has the dolphins, moon, sun, and water images in it, perfect for scenic cards.

For this card I stayed with the Black Mat and adhered it to a Basic White card base.  I also decided I wanted to break up the line between the two “wave” image stamps and decided to adhere my strip with sentiment across the section where they meet.

Let me break down the step-by-step masking techniques I used for these cards.

  1. I started with the moon/sun image and inked it with Basic Gray ink, sponge a little Daffodil Delight as shown and stamped it onto my 3 3/4″ X 5″ Basic White cardstock.
  2. I then created a mask by stamping the same image onto a sticky note or you could use masking paper.  I hand cut out the stamped image cutting close to the edge.
  3. I created 2 masks for the wave image.
  4. I adhered my sticky not over the top of my moon/sun image and stamped the wave images using Balmy Blue or Misty Moonlight ink.
  5. I covered my waves and proceeded to sponge the Balmy Blue or Misty Moonlight inks all over my cardstock, brushing lightly around the moon/sun image and darker on the outside edges.
  6. I removed my mask and stamped the dolphins using Black Momento ink.
  7. I adhered all my scenic handmade prints to Basic Black cardstock and then to the card bases.
  8. The sentiments were added either to the center of the waves or the bottom of the card.

For this card I added a couple of clouds behind the moon/sun image and tried to create a horizon of sorts; not sure if I pulled it off, but just wanted to show you various options you can create with mask and stamps.

I hope I have inspired you to give these basic stamp masking techniques a try.  Again, I encourage you to check out my blog post in August to see all the various ways you can mask and use mask in your stamping projects.
