nature-themed paper designs

Did you know with the nature-themed paper designs found in the Thoughtful Journey Designers Series Paper pack you can create some beautiful cards for any occasion or any person on your list.  If this is the first time you have checked out my blog post, you might just want to check on all the post this month as I have been featuring this gorgeous pack of scenic printed papers all month long.  I’ve been showing creative uses for scenic printed papers and today’s card is no exception.

When I created today’s card it just made me think about someone in my life who is thought of often and I knew would appreciate this card. I don’t know about you, but when I look at nature-themed paper designs I get a calming feeling, or it brings on thoughts of a certain person or event that has happened in my life.  I think scenic printed papers can express feelings for a person in many different ways and that’s one of the reasons I like to use these prints on my cards.  Maybe for me it makes them more personable.

When I was looking at the different prints in the Thoughtful Journey paper pack this print gave me a feeling of quite reflection, and I immediately thought of who I will be sending this card to and that I just wanted them to know I was thinking of them when I created this card.  The Thinking of You sentiment is from the Thoughtful Moments Hybrid Dies & Folders.   This was the first time I used this bundle, and I must say it will be high up on my list of sentiments to use on my cards.  I don’t know why I waited so long to dust it off and put it to use.  There isn’t a stamp set to use with this bundle it is just the embossing folder and die cut all in one.  It will emboss and die cut 10 different sentiments and also has a few other little die cut images in the set as well.  To get the look of the stamping I inked the raised side of the embossing folder with the ink pad, placed the die over the top and then my cardstock and ran it through the Cut & Emboss Machine.  I cut my Crushed Curry cardstock 6 x 6 and now I have 10 different sentiments ready to go on my cards.

To accent my sentiment, I used some linen thread and just looped it around the backside and popped it up on my card front using some dimensionals. Those beautiful copper color gems are new and from the Adhesive-backed Metallic Gems pack.

You might be saying it looks like the top of your card is embossed with leaves and you would be correct. I used the Fern 3D embossing Folder on my card front to bring out the nature-themed paper designs and then popped it up on my card front using dimensionials.

To create the double-window view on the card front I just die cut the card base using the second from the largest rectangular die from the Nested Essentials die pack. I then centered my top piece of Copper Clay cardstock 4″ X 5 1/4″ on the backside of the card front and traced the die cut, so I knew where to place the largest rectangle die to cut out my window.

Just a note as to why I covered the inside of my card.  I slipped with the ink pen when I was tracing my rectangle and my slip showed on the inside of my card, so I decided to cut another piece of the same print used on the front for the inside of my card.  I kind of like my slip up recovery and I might just be doing this more often with these scenic printed papers.  This is a great way to keep the feeling of quite reflection going as I felt when I created this card.

I could have used Basic White on the inside of the card for writing or stamping the inside sentiment, but I chose the new Basic Beige as it is more subtle and not so in your face as I think the white would be.  I’m really liking this new color and it goes with about everything.  It is the perfect mix between white and very vanilla for your inside pieces.
