Two Embossing Folder Tips and Tricks Which Might Deceive You

embossing folder tips and tricks

Did you catch last night’s video featuring 2 different embossing folder techniques that might be a bit deceiving.   Each card has different embossing folder tips and tricks to give you a different result.   By looking at these two card you might think they were created the exact same way but they were not.  If you missed the video last night you will find it below in this blog post.

Both the techniques I used on these two cards are old embossing folder techniques, but you may have forgotten about them or maybe one of them is new to you.  If I had to guess I would say the new technique for you, is the stamping with your embossing folders.  Have you ever given that a try?  Have you ever heard of that technique before?

Let’s take a closer look at each of these cards and their embossing folder techniques:

Now this card is pretty easy to determine what the embossing folder tips and tricks was, correct?  If you guessed inking up the embossing folder first with the ink pad direct to folder or you could use a brayer to ink your folder as well, then you would be correct.  For this background piece I inked the Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder with Boho Blue ink and ran it through my Cut & Emboss Machine with the Boho Blue cardstock inside.  You want to ink the side of the folder that has the Stampin’ Up! logo on it, this is the indented side.

The card base is Smoky Slate and the Shepherd and sentiment were all stamped with Smoky Slate ink and I hand cut out the Shepherd image.

This is actually a fun fold card as well, as after I attached the Boho embossed print to my card front I then cut the sides and adhered the cut sides to the inside of my card, so just the center panel flips up.

I then just added a piece of basic white cardstock to the center for writing or stamping your message.  You can download the PDF file for this card HERE.

Now here is the technique that might be new to you or maybe you totally forgot about it.  I used the exact same folder the Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder inking it up just as I did for the other card except this time I did not run it through my Cut & Emboss Machine, I just added a piece of Basic White cardstock and closed up the folder.  Using your elbow, brayer, bone folder, anything really to put some pressure on your folder to transfer or “stamp” the embossed image onto your cardstock.

This is the deceiving embossing folder technique as it looks like it was embossed but it wasn’t.  This card does not flip up like the other card, another sort of deceiving trick.  The center panel is in fact embossed but without the ink added to the folder.

Have you given these embossing folder techniques are try yet?  Will you be trying them?
