DIY Fun Fold Pocket Card for Birthdays and Gift Giving

fun fold pocket card with a spot for a gift card

Did you catch my Suite of the Month class last night featuring the beautiful Stampin’ Up! Waterside Retreat Suite? If you missed it, you can catch the replay in today’s blog post and see exactly how this interactive card comes together.

This DIY fun fold pocket card is the perfect project for birthdays, Father’s Day, graduations, or anytime you want to give a little extra something special. I created a double gatefold pocket card designed to hold a gift card, cash, or even a check while still looking elegant and handmade.

What makes this fun fold card extra special is the unique pocket design on the front panels. By adding a corner pocket to each side of the gatefold, the removable gift card holder slips right into place and helps keep the card securely closed. It creates a beautiful interactive element while still being practical for gift giving.

Another nice feature of this DIY fun fold pocket card is that once you remove the gift card holder portion, it reveals an alternate card front underneath. This means that even after the gift card, cash, or check has been removed, the recipient is still left with a beautifully finished handmade card to display and enjoy.

I really love this detail because it makes the design feel even more thoughtful and complete. Instead of the card looking unfinished once the pocket insert is removed, the hidden front panel becomes part of the overall design. It is almost like getting two card fronts in one project, which adds an extra surprise element to this fun fold pocket card.

This also makes the card perfect for keepsakes since the recipient can continue displaying the card long after the gift card holder has been taken out. Little interactive details like this are what make fun fold card designs so enjoyable to create and give.

Once opened, the card works just like a traditional greeting card with plenty of room inside to stamp a sentiment or write a personal message. I love when a handmade card is both beautiful and functional, and this project definitely checks both boxes.

Don’t let the photos fool you into thinking this DIY fun fold pocket card is difficult to create because it is actually super easy to put together. While it may look detailed and interactive, the design comes together quickly once you see how the folds and pockets are assembled.

This project is one of the bonus tutorials included in this month’s Suite of the Month Class featuring the Waterside Retreat Suite. Class participants will receive a downloadable project sheet with all the measurements along with a full video tutorial that walks you step by step through the entire card making process.

I wanted this fun fold card to be something that looked impressive while still being achievable for all levels of card makers. The video tutorial makes it easy to follow along, and once you create one, you will want to make more for birthdays, Father’s Day, holidays, and gift giving throughout the year.
