If you love having access to fresh products throughout the year, you are going to want to check out the latest additions to the Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives collection. This release includes some adorable suites that are perfect for your upcoming fall crafting and holiday projects.
I’m kicking things off this month with the Frightfully Fun Suite and the Spooktacular 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. These fun Halloween-themed products immediately caught my attention, and I couldn’t wait to start creating with them. Be sure to watch the video tutorial below where I walk you through exactly how to create these adorable Gable Treat Boxes and coordinating cards.
Most people have heard of Christmas in July, but what about Halloween in July? This year I decided to start creating Halloween projects before diving into my Christmas cards, so you are going to see plenty of spooky inspiration throughout the month. Along with the Frightfully Fun Suite, I’ll also be featuring the Scenic Coast Suite, giving you a fun mix of themes ranging from Halloween projects to beautiful coastal-inspired cards and 3D creations.
Throughout the month, my weekly Card Sketches will showcase both the Halloween Online Exclusive products and the Scenic Coast Suite. Talk about two completely different themes! My goal is to show you just how versatile card sketches can be. By simply changing your papers, stamps, and embellishments, you can take the same sketch and create cards for virtually any occasion.
When I first saw the Spooktacular Designer Series Paper and the Gable Boxes included in the Frightfully Fun Suite, I knew immediately that I wanted to combine the two. The result is a collection of super cute Halloween treat boxes and coordinating cards that will be perfect for my grandkids this Halloween season.
One of my favorite tips that I share in the video is how to customize and color your Gable Boxes so they coordinate perfectly with your Designer Series Paper. This simple extra step makes a huge difference in the finished project and helps tie everything together beautifully.
For my pumpkin-themed boxes, I used Granny Apple Green on the top portion of the box and Pumpkin Pie cardstock on the sides to create a fun pumpkin-inspired look. To finish them off, I added an adorable black bow from the Frightfully Fun Suite. Since these boxes are headed to my granddaughters, I wanted to add a little extra charm and sweetness to the design.
The coordinating cards feature the same Spooktacular Designer Series Paper, creating a perfectly matched gift and card set.
Next up is Frankie, short for Frankenstein, which I think my grandson Jaxon is going to love. He is a big fan of all things Spider-Man and Hulk, and this little Frankie character definitely gives me Hulk vibes. The bright green face paired with the fun Halloween theme makes him one of my favorite characters from the collection.
For the tops of the remaining character boxes, I kept things simple and used black ink applied directly to the box tops with my ink pad. This quick technique gives the boxes a finished look and helps the colorful characters really stand out against the black background.
To complete the projects, I added some of the adorable embellishments from the Frightfully Fun Suite. The little bats, ghosts, and dots are the perfect finishing touches for both the treat boxes and the coordinating cards. These small details add just the right amount of Halloween fun without overwhelming the designs. Sometimes it’s those little embellishments that bring a project to life, and these certainly do the trick!
My next set of characters features the adorable vampire, or Dracula image. After all, what says Halloween more than Dracula? One of the things I love most about the Spooktacular Designer Series Paper is that all of the characters are fun and cute rather than scary, making them perfect for the little ones in your life.
The playful artwork gives these projects a whimsical Halloween feel that children will enjoy without being frightened by traditional spooky images. Whether it’s the vampire, Frankie, pumpkins, Dracula, or Skeletons each character brings its own personality and charm to the projects.
Another thing I love about these Gable Boxes is their size. They are roomy enough to hold much more than just candy. If you’re looking for alternatives to sugary treats, these boxes can easily be filled with all kinds of fun surprises. Think Matchbox cars, miniature farm animals, toy tractors, jewelry, a small stuffed animal, or even practical items like socks and underwear—LOL! The possibilities are endless, and you can customize the contents based on the child’s interests and age.
The final set of characters features this adorable skeleton, or as my son Dean would say, the “bone guy.” Every Halloween collection needs a skeleton, and this one is just too cute! I think I may have to make up a special set of these boxes for Dean and surprise him this Halloween.
Now the big question is, what should I fill his box with? Chocolates are always a good choice, but cash and gift cards are pretty popular too. Maybe a combination of all three! I’ll have to put my thinking cap on and come up with something fun. That’s one of the things I love about these Gable Boxes—they can be customized not only on the outside but also with whatever special surprise you choose to tuck inside.
Whether you’re creating these boxes for grandchildren, children, friends, neighbors, or even the grown-ups in your life, they are sure to bring a smile to anyone who receives them. Paired with the coordinating cards, they make a thoughtful Halloween gift that is both fun to create and fun to give.
