Card #1 – Simple Horizontal Design
Card #1 follows the sketch exactly, designed in the horizontal position. It’s a super quick and easy card sketch idea that comes together in no time—perfect if you want a clean and classic layout that highlights the beautiful paper and embellishments.

The Spooky Sweet Specialty Designer Series Paper is extra special because it includes two full sheets of die cuts right in the paper pack. To keep them crisp, clean, and ready to use, I like to punch all of the die cuts out right away and store them in an empty stamp case. This way, they’re organized and easy to grab whenever I’m creating with my simple card sketch templates.

Card #2 – Fun Fold Diamond Design
Card #2 is a fun and easy card design technique that starts with the same look as the sketch. By simply adding a few extra score lines and trimming the end on a diagonal, you create a pointed edge that transforms into a fun fold diamond card. It’s an eye-catching twist on the simple card sketch template and a great way to step up your card making!

With this photo, you can see how the card swivels open to reveal the inside. I added a coordinating strip of the Spooky Sweet Specialty Designer Series Paper along with a couple more of the die cuts from the pack. It’s a simple way to carry the design from the front of the card to the inside, giving it a polished, finished look.

Card #3 – Same Fun Fold, New Look
Card #3 is created with the same fun fold design as Card #2, but I switched up the Designer Series Paper print and chose different die cuts from the pack. It’s a great reminder that with one simple card sketch template, you can create a whole variety of looks just by changing the paper and embellishments.

All of the sentiments on these cards come from the coordinating Spooky Halloween Stamp Set. I love how perfectly the greetings pair with the Spooky Sweet Specialty Designer Series Paper and die cuts, making it easy to pull everything together for a polished, cohesive look.

Card #4 – Vertical Twist
For Card #4, I simply changed the orientation and created it in a vertical position instead of horizontal. Even though the measurements and construction are exactly the same, this small adjustment gives the card a completely different look and feel. It’s a quick way to stretch your simple card sketch templates and get more variety from one design.

For the inside of the card, I stamped a coordinating sentiment and added a banner die cut from the Spooky Sweet paper pack. It’s a simple way to continue the theme from the front of the card and give the inside a finished, polished look.

Card #5 – Vertical Design, Fresh Look
Card #5 is created in the vertical position, just like Card #4, but with a fresh twist—different Designer Series Paper prints and new die cuts from the pack. This is a great example of how you can use one simple card sketch template to make multiple unique cards just by swapping paper and embellishments.

fun and easy card design techniques

To give Card #5 a little extra dimension, I used the Nested Essentials Dies for the sentiment piece on the front, added a strip of coordinating cardstock behind it, and then popped it up on the card front. It’s a simple technique that really makes the sentiment stand out while keeping the card design clean and easy to recreate.  This was the card that Beckett chose to be his Halloween card.

Card #6 – Vertical Easel Card
Card #6 starts with a similar vertical layout, but I took it a step further and created a vertical easel card. I also chose different Designer Series Paper prints and new die cuts from the pack to give it a fresh look. This is a fun way to add movement and dimension while still following a simple card sketch template.

To turn this into a true easel card, I stamped a sentiment onto a strip of Basic White cardstock and added it to the inside using dimensionals. This acts as the stopper, allowing the pointed diamond from the card front to stand up when the card is opened. It’s a simple trick that adds fun movement while keeping the design clean and easy to recreate.

There you have it! One simple card sketch template transformed into six completely different cards—all using the same layout but with fun variations in orientation, folds, papers, and die cuts.
