Each week, I’ve taken a basic sketch and shown you not only how to make a quick and easy card, but also how to step it up into a fun fold card. It’s amazing how much versatility you can get from one clean layout!
So let’s not wait any longer—let’s dive right in and take a look at this week’s sketch.
For this week’s sketch, I’m featuring the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper—and let me tell you, it is stunning! ? This paper pack is also my featured choice for the October Stamp Camp at Home Card Club Kit, so you’ll be seeing these gorgeous prints popping up a lot throughout the month.
The colors and patterns in this collection are absolutely perfect for fall. Whether you’re creating thank you cards, birthday cards, or holiday greetings, the rich tones and seasonal designs will carry you through all your autumn crafting. I love how well this paper works with both clean and simple card sketch layouts as well as stepped-up fun fold designs.
By starting with Card Sketch #22, you’ll see just how easy it is to let this paper shine—your card practically designs itself when you begin with such beautiful prints!
For my first card, I started with an Early Espresso card base cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″. This rich, dark brown is such a beautiful base color for fall projects.
Next, I added two panels of the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper:
-
3 7/8″ x 4″ (main panel)
-
1 1/4″ x 4″ (accent strip)
I just love how these prints work together—one bold, one subtle—bringing out the warmth of the season.
For the sentiment, I reached for the Stylish Shapes Dies. I layered a couple of the circle dies with the larger banner die to create a clean, layered focal point. The stamped sentiment is from the coordinating Gathering Moments Bundle, which ties everything together beautifully.
At first glance, Card #2 looks almost identical to the first card, but this one has a little surprise—it’s actually a fun fold card! I love taking a simple sketch and giving it a creative twist, and this fold is an easy way to step things up without adding too much extra work.
For this card, I switched up the base to Crushed Curry cardstock, cut 4 1/4″ x 9 3/4″ and scored at 5 1/2″. The result is a shorter front flap that lets you showcase a peek of the inside design.
Here are the measurements:
-
Front panel (DSP): 4″ x 4″
-
Inside Basic White: 4″ x 5 1/4″
-
Inside DSP strip: 1 1/4″ x 4″
For the focal point, I used the Stylish Shapes Dies again, this time layering the square shapes for a fresh look. The sentiment is accented with stamped and die-cut leaves from the Gathering Moments Bundle, adding that perfect fall touch.
This card shows just how versatile a simple card sketch template can be—by making one small change, you can transform a clean layout into a card that opens with a “wow” factor.
Here’s a little peek at the inside of the card. As you can see, there’s plenty of room on the Basic White panel to stamp a sentiment or write a heartfelt message. I also added a coordinating strip of the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper along the edge, which ties the inside and outside of the card together beautifully.
This simple detail really finishes the design and makes the card feel extra polished while still staying true to the clean and simple card sketch layout.
Card #3 is yet another fun fold, but with a different twist! At first glance, the front looks just like the first two cards, but the base is cut and folded in a way that makes this design stand out.
For this card, I used a Cajun Craze card base cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″. To create the fold, I trimmed from the outside edge at 1 1/4″ down to the score line, then secured that narrow panel to the inside of the card. This creates a layered effect that looks unique but still follows the simple sketch.
Here are the measurements:
-
Front panel (DSP): 4″ x 4″
-
Side panel (DSP): 1″ x 4″
I love how this design gives you the look of a standard card front while adding just a little unexpected detail when it opens. It’s another great way to show off those gorgeous prints from the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper while keeping the layout clean and simple.
For the sentiment, I once again used the Stylish Shapes Dies to create the layered focal point. You might not notice it right away in the photo, but I incorporated the Earthen Tones Metallic Paper—and it’s just gorgeous! The subtle shimmer pulls out the metallic accents in the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper, making the whole card feel extra elegant.
To finish things off, I added the Cajun Craze & Gold Dots, which I also used on the other cards. These little embellishments bring the three designs together into a coordinated set while adding the perfect touch of sparkle.
Wrapping Up Card Sketch #22
And there you have it—three unique takes on Card Sketch #22! Each card started with the same simple card sketch template, yet by switching up the fold, colors, and Designer Series Paper prints, I was able to create three very different looks.
-
Card #1: A clean and simple version—quick to make, yet still elegant.
-
Card #2: A stepped-up fun fold with a shorter front flap, showcasing the inside beautifully.
-
Card #3: Another fun fold variation with a creative side panel for extra dimension.
That’s the beauty of working with simple card sketches for beginners (or seasoned crafters!)—you get endless possibilities from just one layout. Add in the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper, the Gathering Moments Bundle, and a few timeless dies like Stylish Shapes, and you’ll have stunning fall cards ready for any occasion.
This Designer Series Paper is also my featured pack for October’s Stamp Camp at Home Card Club Kit—so you’ll be seeing even more inspiration with these gorgeous prints all month long.
