Card Sketches for Fun and Easy Card Design Techniques

fun and easy card design techniques with card sketches

Welcome to Week #37 of Card Sketches for Fun and Easy Card Design Techniques! This week’s sketch is all about simplicity—and versatility. It’s a clean, easy layout that will work beautifully with any Designer Series Paper you have on hand, making it perfect for beginner stampers and experienced crafters alike.

There’s no fun fold card this week, but who says a simple card layout can’t create a stunning handmade card? Sometimes the most straightforward designs let your paper and embellishments shine, and this sketch does exactly that.

Be sure to download and print this week’s sketch so you’ll have a great resource at your fingertips whenever you’re looking for inspiration or quick card ideas.

Below today’s sketch, you’ll find the download link for the sketch, along with a link to the Card Sketch Album in my Photo Gallery here on my blog.

For my two sample cards, I used the Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper. This gorgeous paper pack is the featured product in my Stamp Camp at Home Card Club Kit for this month. If you’d like more details about the card club and everything that’s included, be sure to check out this post HERE.

To complete the cards, I also used the coordinating Petals of Beauty Bundle and the Words of Beauty Bundle, which pair perfectly with this paper and sketch.

Both cards use the same measurements—the only thing I changed was the Designer Series Paper.

The circles were created using the 2?” Circle Punch and the 2¼” Circle Punch, but you could also use the Stylish Shapes Dies if you prefer.

Card Measurements

  • Card Base: Early Espresso – 5½” x 8½”, scored at 4¼”

  • Cardstock Layer: Very Vanilla – 4″ x 5¼”

  • Designer Series Paper: 3¾” x 5″

  • DSP Strip: 2″ x 3¾”

  • Mat for DSP Strip: Early Espresso – 2?” x 3¾”

The sentiment is from the coordinating bundles and is matted with a piece of Early Espresso cardstock to help it stand out.

The flowers were stamped and die cut using the coordinating bundles, then popped up on the circles for added dimension. To finish the cards, I added a few Pearls of Beauty embellishments for just the right touch of sparkle.

The measurements for Card #2 are exactly the same; I simply flipped the striped Designer Series Paper to the other side to showcase the floral print. I also changed the position of the sentiment on the front of the card and used the “Celebrate” sentiment from the Banner Sayings Bundle.

Just a few subtle changes completely changed the look of this card. Which one is your favorite?

For the inside of the card, I added a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock measuring 4″ x 5¼”, with a strip of the floral Designer Series Paper across the bottom edge measuring 1″ x 4″.

Fun and Easy Card Design Techniques – Shopping List

This week’s sketch proves that easy card design techniques don’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. With a simple layout and a few small changes—like flipping your Designer Series Paper or moving the sentiment—you can create two completely different looks using the same measurements.
