Card Sketches Using Stunning Scenic Printed Papers Collection

If you love beginner-friendly card sketches, easy card sketches, and creative ways to use your favorite scenic papers, then today’s cards are for you! One simple card sketch idea can create completely different looks depending on the paper, colors, and embellishments you choose.

For today’s cards, I used two stunning scenic printed papers collection from Stampin’ Up!®—the Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper and the Scenic Coast Designer Series Paper. Both feature gorgeous scenic prints, making them perfect for creating quick and easy cards with minimal stamping.

This week’s card sketch is especially great for showcasing larger scenic images because it creates a fun windowpane effect that draws your eye right into the artwork.

card layout ideas with designer series paper

Card #1 – Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper

My first card features the Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper, a 12″ x 12″ paper pack filled with whimsical Halloween scenes and characters.

For the card base, I used Basic Black cardstock. I then cut a piece of the Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper to fit the card front and sliced it into sections to create a windowpane look. This simple technique adds interest while still allowing the beautiful scenic print to remain the star of the card.

To finish the front, I stamped my sentiment from the coordinating Oh My Fright Stamp Set and added a few of the Bats, Ghosts, and Dots Embellishments for a playful Halloween touch.

Inside the card, I kept things simple by adding a layer of Very Vanilla cardstock along with a coordinating strip of Designer Series Paper across the bottom.

This is a quick and easy card that comes together in minutes and is a fantastic way to use those larger scenic prints that can sometimes be difficult to cut apart.

Card #2 – Scenic Coast Designer Series Paper

For my second card, I used the beautiful Scenic Coast Designer Series Paper.

The card base is Blueberry Bushel cardstock, which perfectly complements the coastal colors found in the paper. Just like the first card, I cut the Designer Series Paper into sections to create the same windowpane effect.

To decorate the card front, I used the coordinating Sunset Coast Bundle for both the sentiment and die-cut elements. The lighthouse and birds add wonderful dimension while enhancing the scenic coastal view.

Of the two cards, this one is definitely my favorite. It reminds me of summer afternoons spent looking out over the water, watching the lighthouse in the distance and birds soaring through the sky. The sentiment, “You Brighten My Day,” feels like the perfect finishing touch for this peaceful scene.

I accented the card with Sparkling Sunset Sequins for a little extra shimmer and sparkle.

For the inside, I added a layer of Basic White cardstock and finished it with a coordinating strip of the same Designer Series Paper used on the front.

One Card Sketch, Endless Possibilities

What I love most about this layout is how versatile it is. Using the exact same card sketch, I was able to create two completely different cards for two completely different occasions.

The Halloween card feels fun and playful, while the coastal card feels relaxing and serene. The only things that changed were the paper, sentiment, and embellishments.

That’s why card sketch ideas are such a valuable tool for card makers. Once you find a layout you love, you can recreate it again and again using different Designer Series Papers to create cards for every season and occasion.

Whether you’re new to stamping or have been crafting for years, this is one of those quick and easy card sketches you’ll find yourself reaching for over and over.
