quick and easy card sketch ideas with sketch from the stamp camp

Looking for quick and easy card sketch ideas for every occasion? You’re in the right place! At The Stamp Camp, my weekly card sketches will inspire you to create beautiful cards with minimal effort. Each week, I start with a simple sketch design and then show you how to step it up — first into a fun fold card, and then into a card and gift card holder, all using the same layout. With just a few tweaks to your measurements and supplies, you’ll discover how easy it is to transform one sketch into two unique fun fold cards that are perfect for any occasion!

Keep Your Sketches Organized

If you haven’t already, make sure to download and print the sketch so you can use it as a handy tool in your craft room. I recommend keeping a 3-ring binder and some clear page protectors nearby — print each of your favorite sketches and slide them inside the protectors. This way, you’ll have an organized reference book ready whenever inspiration strikes.

fun and easy card design techniques

Card #1 – Following the Sketch Exactly

Let’s take a look at each of the cards I created using this simple sketch. Card #1 follows the layout exactly as shown. For this card, I chose the Gathering Together Specialty Designer Series Paper for the accent pieces and paired it with the Gathering Moments Bundle to stamp and die cut the leaves and acorn featured on the card front.

To add a bit of dimension, I created a mat behind the focal image using the Branching Out Dies. If you prefer to let your designer series paper shine, you could easily skip the layering and simply add a sentiment to the front — quick, simple, and still stunning!

Measurements:

  • Card Base: Early Espresso – 5 ½” x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”

  • DSP Strips (top & bottom): ½” x 4″

  • Center DSP Panel: 4″ x 4″

For the focal point, I die cut two of the frames from the Branching Out Dies, layered them together, and added my stamped and die-cut leaves and acorn. Everything is tied together with an Early Espresso double bow and finished off with a few Cajun Craze and Gold Dots for that perfect touch of sparkle.

For the inside of the card, I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock measuring 4″ x 5 ¼” and added a coordinating strip of the Designer Series Paper along the bottom edge (¾” x 4″). This simple detail ties the inside and outside together beautifully, giving your card a clean and finished look.

Card #2 – Stepping It Up with a Fun Fold

Card #2 follows the same sketch layout as Card #1, but with a fun little twist — the center panel actually opens up! For this design, I chose the Wildflower Birthday Specialty Designer Series Paper for my accent pieces.

The card base is Blueberry Bushel cardstock measuring 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. The DSP strips on the top and botto

m are ½” x 4″. The center panel, which is the portion that opens, is also Blueberry Bushel cardstock, cut to 4 ¼” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”. This forms the only opening portion of the card.

For the focal point, I used one of the floral bouquet die cuts from the paper pack — such a quick and easy way to add detail without extra stamping! To turn this into a birthday card, I stamped a Happy Birthday sentiment using Blueberry Bushel ink on a strip of Basic White cardstock, then flagged both ends for a banner look. I layered it onto a strip of Blueberry Bushel cardstock and popped it up on the card front with dimensionals.

A few candy dots were the perfect finishing touch to tie the colors together and add a bit of texture.

For the inside of the card, I added a piece of Basic White cardstock measuring 4″ x 4″ — the perfect size to fit inside the smaller opening panel. To tie the design together, I included a cute little cupcake die cut from the same paper pack. It’s a simple touch that adds just the right amount of fun and coordinates perfectly with the card front.

Card #3 – Wedding Card & Gift Card Holder Combo

Card #3 may look similar to Card #2 since I used the same Wildflower Birthday Specialty Designer Series Paper, but this one has a special twist! It’s not only a wedding card — it’s also a gift card holder and full-size card all in one.

For this design, the card base is Pretty in Pink cardstock, cut to 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”. The Designer Series Paper strips on the top and bottom are ½” x 4″, just like the previous cards. The center card panel is also Pretty in Pink cardstock, measuring 4 ¼” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼” — this creates the opening portion and the pocket for the gift card.

For the focal point, I once again used the Branching Out Dies to create layered mats — one from Pool Party cardstock and the other from Basic White. On top of these, I added a wedding cake die cut from the Designer Series Paper pack, accented with a small bouquet die cut for a soft, elegant touch.

To bring a little sparkle and texture to the design, I finished it off with a few Party Dots. The sentiment was stamped onto a strip of Basic White cardstock using Pretty in Pink ink; I flagged both ends and popped it up with dimensionals for added dimension and balance.

When you open up the center panel on this card, you’ll find a clever little surprise — a built-in gift card pocket! I created the pocket by attaching another piece of the Designer Series Paper, adhering only the sides and bottom edges so the top remains open to slide in a gift card or some cash.

To give the pocket a bit of decorative flair, I die cut the top edge of the DSP strip (2″ x 4″) using one of the detailed dies from the Branching Out Dies — this adds just the right touch of elegance to the design. I then adhered the pocket to the bottom of a Basic White cardstock panel (4″ x 4″) and attached that to the inside of the center card panel.

You could easily stamp a sentiment in this section for a personal message, and to finish it off, I added a small floral die cut in the top left-hand corner for a sweet coordinating touch.

For the inside of the full card, I added a piece of Basic White cardstock measuring 4″ x 5 ¼”, and added a coordinating strip of Designer Series Paper along the bottom edge. I stamped a sentiment using Pretty in Pink ink and finished it off with a small cake die cut from the paper pack to tie the theme together. This simple detail keeps the inside elegant while still reflecting the card front design.

There you have it — three beautiful cards created from one simple sketch, each showcasing a different way to step up your design. From a quick and easy card, to a fun fold, and even a gift card holder/wedding card combo, this sketch proves that a little creativity can go a long way!
