Simple Card Sketch Templates for Beautiful Layered Cards

Happy Wednesday! Today’s Simple Card Sketch Templates are perfect for creating beautiful layered weaving looks easily on your card fronts. If you love quick layouts with lots of texture and dimension, these simple card sketches are a wonderful way to create eye-catching handmade cards while using up those smaller strips of designer series paper.

For today’s cards, simply cut strips of designer series paper, weave them together into an easy pattern, and adhere the finished piece to your card front for a fun and creative focal image. These Simple Card Sketch Templates make it easy to achieve a quilted or woven appearance without complicated techniques.

For today’s card samples, I used the beautiful Nature Walk Designer Series Paper along with a simple sentiment from the Nature’s Symphony Bundle.

This is Week #54 in my Card Sketches series, and I’m still focusing on creative ways to use those little strips and leftover pieces of designer series paper we all seem to collect in our craft rooms. These Simple Card Sketch Templates are a fantastic way to turn scraps into beautiful layered cards with very little waste.

Two Ways to Receive the Card Sketch Downloads

There are two different options for receiving my download card sketches:

Option #1 – Free Download

This is the free option that you can download and print at any time. You’ll find all the free sketches in my Photo Gallery here on my blog. Simply click on the Weekly Card Sketches Album to browse through all of the sketch ideas and inspiration.

Option #2 – Free with Any Size Order

Place any size order of at least $1.00 through my online store and you’ll receive the upgraded version with:

  • Measurements
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • The full month of card sketch downloads

Once your order is placed, I’ll send you an email with the entire month’s worth of Simple Card Sketch Templates. This allows you to see what is coming up for the month or catch up on sketches that have already been featured, depending on when you order.

Some card makers love having all the measurements and instructions included, while others prefer using the sketches simply as inspiration to create something uniquely their own. Either option is a wonderful resource to keep in your craft area.

I always recommend printing your sketches, slipping them into page protectors, and storing them in a 3-ring binder. Before long, you’ll have an entire collection of Simple Card Sketch Templates ready whenever you need card making inspiration.

Let’s Take a Closer Look at Today’s Cards

Card #1

Card #1 follows the sketch exactly and uses 1″ strips of the Nature Walk Designer Series Paper. The four strips are woven together into a quilt-style pattern and adhered directly onto the card front.

These Simple Card Sketch Templates make it easy to create layered looks while still keeping the card simple and easy to duplicate. Once the woven focal piece is complete, it’s simply a matter of adding your sentiment and finishing off the inside of the card with a coordinating strip or accent piece.

Card #2

Card #2 was created exactly the same as Card #1, but this time I added a die cut image to the front for even more texture and dimension. The woven “quilt” portion becomes more of a beautiful layered backdrop behind the focal image.

This is another great example of how versatile Simple Card Sketch Templates can be. By changing just one element, you can create a completely different finished look while still following the exact same sketch.

Both options are stunning, simple to create, and a fantastic way to stretch your designer series paper stash.

So which option is your favorite — the clean woven look of #1 or the added texture and layers of #2?
