Simple Card Sketches for Beginners Using Designer Series Paper

simple card sketches for beginners from the stamp camp

Welcome to Card Sketch #59! Today’s simple card sketches for beginners using designer series paper are a great way to get started with card making while also using up some of that beautiful designer series paper we all have tucked away in our craft rooms.

One of the things I love most about card sketches is that they take the guesswork out of designing a card. Instead of wondering where to place your paper, embellishments, and sentiments, you simply follow the sketch and let your favorite papers do all the work. This makes card sketches perfect for beginners, but they are also a wonderful source of inspiration for experienced card makers looking for a quick and easy project.

For my samples today, I used papers from the Waterside Retreat Suite and the Florals in Bloom Designer Series Paper. These two collections couldn’t be more different from one another. The Waterside Retreat papers feature relaxing outdoor scenes and nature-inspired images, while the Florals in Bloom papers are filled with beautiful floral patterns and bright, cheerful colors.

Even though the papers have completely different themes and styles, the finished cards created from the sketch are equally beautiful. That is the magic of a good card sketch. The layout remains the same, but by simply changing the designer series paper, you can create cards that fit different occasions, personalities, and recipients.

If you are creating cards for someone who loves the outdoors, the Waterside Retreat papers are a perfect choice. On the other hand, if you are making a card for a friend who enjoys flowers and vibrant colors, the Florals in Bloom papers may be exactly what you need. The sketch works beautifully with both styles, proving just how versatile a simple card layout can be.

Card sketches are also an excellent way to stretch your supplies. Instead of purchasing new products, challenge yourself to pull out paper packs you already own and see how many different looks you can create from a single sketch. You may be surprised at how many card ideas you discover simply by changing the paper, cardstock colors, and sentiment.

Now let’s Check Out Each of Today’s Simple Card Sketches For Beginners with Designer Series Paper:

Card #1 – Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper

For my first card, I’m featuring the Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper, which is part of my June Suite of the Month Class. If you have been thinking about placing an order, you only have a few more days to do so and receive this month’s Card Sketches with Measurements and Instructions FREE with any size order.

The Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper is a wonderful choice for creating cards for a variety of recipients. With its relaxing lakeside scenes, fishing-themed prints, and bicycle images, it is especially well suited for masculine cards, teenage birthdays, and anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The variety of patterns included in the paper pack makes it easy to create cards for many different occasions while still maintaining a coordinated look.

For this card, I kept things simple and let the designer series paper take center stage. One of the benefits of using card sketches is that you don’t need a lot of extra embellishments or techniques to create a beautiful card. The paper does most of the work for you.

The sentiment comes from the Relaxing Waterside Stamp Set and is the perfect finishing touch. Its versatile wording makes this card suitable for a variety of occasions, whether you’re sending birthday wishes, a thinking-of-you card, or simply a note to brighten someone’s day.

Card #2 – Florals in Bloom Designer Series Paper

For Card #2, I switched things up and used the Florals in Bloom Designer Series Paper while keeping the exact same measurements, layout, and sentiment as the first card. It’s amazing how different a card can look simply by changing the designer series paper.

While Card #1 had a more masculine, outdoor feel with the Waterside Retreat papers, this version has a softer and more cheerful look thanks to the beautiful floral patterns. Even though both cards were created using the same sketch and instructions, the designer series paper completely changes the overall style and feel of the finished project.

This is one of the reasons I love working with card sketches. They provide a foundation for your design while allowing you to customize the card to fit the recipient, occasion, or supplies you have on hand. By simply changing the paper, you can create a completely different card without having to learn a new layout or technique.

This sketch works beautifully with a variety of paper designs, from florals and geometric patterns to seasonal collections. It is also an excellent layout for showcasing those scenic prints that are often difficult to cut apart or use on a card. The larger focal area allows the beauty of the paper to shine while still leaving room for a simple sentiment.

Whether you prefer the outdoor charm of the Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper or the colorful floral designs found in Florals in Bloom, this sketch proves that one layout can provide endless creative possibilities. Simply choose your favorite designer series paper and let the sketch do the work for you!
