Welcome to Week #48 in my Simple Card Sketches for Beginners Using Easy Templates series!
Lately, my sketches have been focusing on paper pieces—and all the fun, simple layouts you can create using them. Whether you’re working with small scraps or cutting into a fresh pack, these designs make it easy to create beautiful cards without overthinking the layout.
For today’s sketch, we’re keeping things extra simple by using strips of Designer Series Paper. This layout is incredibly versatile and can be used with any paper you have on hand, making it perfect for creating cards for any occasion—birthdays, thank you cards, thinking of you, and more.
Before we take a closer look at each of today’s cards using this sketch, be sure to download and print this week’s sketch. I recommend adding it to a 3-ring binder so you can build your own collection of go-to layouts. It’s such a great way to keep creative inspiration right at your fingertips—especially on those days when you’re feeling stuck.
If this is the first Card Sketch you’re seeing, don’t forget to visit my photo gallery here on the blog and look for the Card Sketches album. You’ll be able to download and print all of the previous sketches so you can build your own inspiration library.

Before we get into the details for Card #1, I want to share the measurements for all of the cards. Each design uses the same measurements—the only differences are the Designer Series Paper, sentiments, and die-cut pieces.
All of the card bases are Thick Basic White, cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″.
The mat layer measures 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″, and the next layer is a Basic White embossed piece (using a coordinating embossing folder) cut to 3 3/4″ x 5″.
For the focal design, the Designer Series Paper strips are cut as follows:
- (2) pieces at 3/4″ x 4″
- (1) center strip at 3/4″ x 4 1/4″
To finish off each of the cards, I used a variety of sentiments and die-cut pieces to create the greeting, keeping each one simple but unique.
For Card #1, I used my featured suite from this month’s Stamp Camp at Home Card Club Kit, which is the Lovely Blossoms Suite.
To add texture and interest, I embossed the background layer using the Lovely Stripes Embossing Folder. For the sentiment, I used the Nested Essentials Dies, which create a clean and classic focal point.
The sentiment itself comes from the Lovely Arrangements Stamp Set, also part of the suite, making it easy to coordinate everything beautifully.
For the mat layer I used Secret Sea cardstock as well as the strip behind the sentiment. To finish off the card, I added a few Moody Palette Dots.
For Card #2, I used the Lovely & Beautiful Specialty Designer Series Paper, paired with Fresh Freesia cardstock for the mat layer to give the card a soft, elegant look.
The embossed layer was created using the Beautiful Pattern Embossing Folder—and just a quick note, this one is currently on the Last Chance list and on sale, so it’s a great time to grab it while it’s still available!
For the focal point, I used the Beautifully Celebrated Dies, and the sentiment comes from the Simply Beautiful Stamp Set, keeping everything nicely coordinated.
To finish off the card, I added a few Pearlized Faceted Gems, which add just the right amount of shimmer and polish.
For Card #3, I used the Brushed With Beauty Designer Series Paper, which pairs beautifully with this simple strip layout.
The embossed background was created using the Beautiful Pattern Embossing Folder, which was originally part of the Brushed With Beauty Suite, tying all the elements together nicely.
For the sentiment, I kept things simple by punching a circle from Mossy Meadow cardstock and stamping a greeting from the Words of Beauty Bundle.
To finish off the card, I added a few Moody Palette Dots for a subtle touch of dimension and shine.
