Do you ever find yourself staring at your paper stash wondering what to create next? Today’s card sketches post is the perfect solution! Card Sketch #66 is a versatile layout that works beautifully with any Designer Series Paper, making it one of my favorite beginner-friendly card sketch designs to date.
Whether you love florals, scenic papers, or even Halloween-themed designs, this sketch can be adapted to fit any occasion. That’s exactly what I did with today’s three cards. Using the same layout, I created three completely different designs with the Violet Dreams Designer Series Paper, Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper, and Spooktacular Designer Series Paper.
If you’re looking for free card sketches to download, you’ll find this week’s sketch below. I intentionally do not include measurements on my sketch downloads because I want you to explore your own creativity. By choosing your own cardstock sizes, layering pieces, sentiments, and embellishments, you’ll create a card that is uniquely yours while still following the overall sketch design.
For those who enjoy having complete measurements and instructions, any size order placed in my Stampin’ Up! online store during August unlocks access to all of this month’s card sketches, plus bonus downloadable PDF tutorials. This is shaping up to be the biggest month of downloads I’ve ever offered! New projects are added every week featuring Designer Series Papers such as Violet Dreams, Valley Blooms, Cute As A Bug, and Lily of the Valley. It’s a fantastic time to place an order and build your collection of creative inspiration.
Card #1 – Violet Dreams Designer Series Paper
For my first card, I chose the beautiful Violet Dreams Designer Series Paper and paired it with Secret Sea cardstock.
The card front begins with a Secret Sea card base layered with a piece of Basic White cardstock embossed using Softly Woven 3D embossing folder which is part of the Neutral Noel Suite releasing in the September – December catalog beginning September 1st. As shown on the sketch, I added pieces of Violet Dreams Designer Series Paper in the upper left and lower right corners.
The focal point features a larger piece of Violet Dreams Designer Series Paper layered onto Secret Sea cardstock. For the sentiment, I used the coordinating Framed Violets stamp set, stamping the greeting on Basic White and punching it out using the Three Banner Punch. I then added a strip of Secret Sea cardstock behind the sentiment which adds extra dimension and helps draw attention to the greeting.
To finish the card, I added coordinating adhesive-backed blooms embellishments.
Inside the card, I carried the design through with another strip of Designer Series Paper, and I completed the look by decorating the envelope flap with matching paper.
Card #2 – Frightfully Fun Meets Spooktacular
My second card shows just how versatile this sketch can be.
Starting with a Basic Black card base, I layered Very Vanilla cardstock embossed with the Swirls of Magic Embossing Folder. I then followed the sketch layout by placing pieces of Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper in opposite corners.
For the focal image, I cut out one of the pumpkin faces from the Spooktacular Designer Series Paper and layered it onto Basic Black cardstock. The sentiment, “Trick or Treat,” comes from the Oh My Fright stamp set and perfectly complements the Halloween theme.
To add a little extra fun, I embellished the card with Bats, Ghosts & Dots embellishments.
Inside the card, I added a coordinating strip of Designer Series Paper along the bottom and stamped the adorable ghost image in the upper corner. The envelope flap was covered with matching paper to create a coordinated presentation from start to finish.
This card proves that the same sketch can easily transition from elegant florals to playful Halloween creations.
Card #3 – Violet Dreams With Die Cuts
For my third card, I revisited the Violet Dreams Designer Series Paper but gave the sketch a slightly different twist.
The card base is Gorgeous Grape cardstock measuring 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2″. Like the first card, I embossed a layer of Basic White cardstock using the upcoming New Softly Woven 3D embossing folder which is part of the Neutral Noel Suite releasing in the September – December catalog beginning September 1st and added Designer Series Paper in the opposite corners.
Instead of using a cut panel for the focal point, I showcased the coordinating die-cut elements included with the paper collection. This creates a completely different look while still staying true to the original sketch design.
The sentiment comes from the coordinating Framed Violets stamp set. I stamped it on Basic White cardstock and layered it onto Gorgeous Grape using circle punches. For added interest, I punched a banner shape using the Three Banner Punch, cut it in half, and tucked the ends behind the circle sentiment layer.
A few Violet Dreams embellishments complete the card front.
On the inside, I added a hand-cut violet image from the Designer Series Paper along with a coordinating strip across the bottom. The envelope flap was decorated with matching paper to create a beautiful finishing touch.
