Choosing the Right Designer Series Paper

When it comes to choosing the right designer series paper for your one sheet wonder gift ensemble, consider the recipient’s style and preferences. Whether they love florals, geometric patterns, or bold colors, there’s a paper out there that will perfectly suit their taste.   I personally love the Flowering Zinnia’s paper prints, but it might be to loud for your taste or the recipients taste.  Choose a print that is non-directional and coordinates on the front and backside, so you can use either side of the print for your cards.  The next step is to choose a solid color cardstock for your card bases and the portfolio, but you can always mix and match your card bases and layers to coordinate with your paper print.  For this project I chose to use the Lemon Lime Twist cardstock for my portfolio and most of my card bases and I accented the paper print with the Melon Mambo cardstock.

For portfolio and the cards I used the Melon Mambo cardstock embossed with the coordinating Zinnia’s 3D Embossing Folder and the die cut pieces are all from the Nested Essentials dies.

Creating Coordinating Cards

Once I had the portfolio cut and assembled I cut the remaining designer series paper up to create 4 coordinating cards.  Each card uses a 3″ X 5 1/4″ piece of the designer series paper, so you could make all four cards the exact same if you like or make each one differently as I did.

My first card is similar to the cover of my portfolio, which is generally how I like to do my gift ensembles.  I like for one of the cards to be similar or identical to the cover of my gift box.  You could also make all the cards the same and the gift box and cards would all be the same.  The only difference here is that I used Mossy Meadow for my banner and sentiment mat instead of the Lemon Lime Twist.  I like to mix and match my colors to decide which I like best.

For this card I decided to make it horizontally and changed the way the embossing goes on the Melon Mambo piece.  I also did something a bit out of my comfort zone and made the sentiment pieces crocked and not matched up.   This was the overall choice from those watching my live class last night on my YouTube Channel.  Actually I asked for advice on just about every card I created last night.  It is fun to have those watching make some of the choices for me; it let’s me know what you like to see.

On this card I decided to flip the print over to the other side, so it was a bit softer and I felt coordinated with my stamped and colored Zinnia flowers.   I stamped the flowers using Black Memento ink and then colored them in with the Stampin’ Blends.  This Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Unbounded Love stamp set.  All the other sentiments that I used were from the Layering Leaves stamp set.  Both have great sentiments in the sets, but I wanted a variety of sentiments so chose both of those stamp sets to work with.

For the final card of the night I used the Zinnia’s Dies to create just one large flower.  I ended up with a left-over strip of the designer series paper, so I decided to add it to the front of the pocket inside the portfolio, which I really like.
