pocket fold card for mother's day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and you’re probably already thinking about how to show your mom just how much she means to you. While a store-bought card is always a safe bet, why not surprise her with something extra special this year?  Are you looking for ideas for Mother’s Day Cards?  How about a DIY pocket fold card? It is the perfect way to add a personal touch to your gift-giving as this card has a build in pocket for a nice little gift card to slip inside.  In today’s video I’ll show you how to create a beautiful card that she’ll love. From gathering your supplies to decorating your finished product, I’ve got you covered. So grab your scissors, cardstock, favorite printed papers, stamp set or bundle and some glue, and let’s get crafting!,

Gather Your Supplies:

To get started on your DIY pocket fold card, the first thing you’ll need to do is gather your supplies.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– Designer Series Paper Choose your mom’s favorite color or a pattern that she’ll love.
– Coordinating Cardstock
– Trimmer
– Ruler: This will help you measure and cut your paper accurately.
– Glue or adheisve: You’ll need something to hold your card together.
– Favorite Stamp Set/Bundle ( I used the Two-Toned Flora Bundle)
– Add some bling to finish off your card.

Once you have all of your supplies on hand, you’re ready to begin cutting, scoring and folding.  Here’s a run down of your pocket fold card tutorial:

Cut your card base 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″ and score it at 4 1/4″.  You will then need to measure one end at 2 3/4″ and make a pencil mark.  Do this to both the sides as well at 2 3/4″ and make a pencil mark,  Now line up the marks in your trimmer/scorer and score from mark to mark on each side.

Fold on those score lines to create your pocket.

Cut your Designer Series Paper 1 1/2″ X 5 1/4″ and attach to the top of your card front.

Cut your Designer Series Paper 3 1/2″ X 3 1/2″ and cut it on the diagonal.  Take one of these and attach to your front pocket on your card.  Take the other 1/2 and cut it in half again.

Attach a piece of Basic White cardstock 4″ X 5 1/4″ to the inside of your card and attach the 2 triangular pieces of the designer series paper to each outside corner.

Decorate Your Pocket Fold Card

Now comes the fun part – decorating your card! You can use any Flora stamp set/bundle that you have on hand; I choose to use the Two Tone Flora stamp set and die set for a quick and easy card.  My mom always loved red so I went with the Cherry Cobbler ink for my outline image of my flowers and the Real Red for the solid image of my flowers.  I also wanted a nice vibrant pop of green so went with the Shaded Spruce green.

Consider using a color palette that your mom loves or incorporating her favorite flower.  I also added a few of those iridescent Pearls to accent the flowers.

The last piece of the puzzle is the gift card; is there a specific store your mom likes to shop at or maybe a favorite coffee shop or better yet how about a craft store or your her favorite Stampin’ Up! demonstrator?  Just saying!
